Protect your MT4/MT5 trading on iPhone and Android
You trade on iPhone or Android, but want your stopping rule enforced while your computer is off. Protection needs to follow the trading account, not just the screen you use. Here is how to prepare a mobile session with SentinelleTrader and check that the right account is actually protected.
In this guide
Your phone places trades; protection monitors the account
In MetaTrader mobile, you view positions and send orders to your selected account. MetaQuotes describes the order functions and Stop Loss and Take Profit levels available in its MT5 mobile application. This interface is not the same thing as an account-wide stopping rule after several losses.
SentinelleTrader monitoring is hosted remotely. You continue using your normal MT4 or MT5 app. Configured limits apply to the account connected to the service, whether an order comes from your phone or another device. A second account on the same phone is not automatically protected: it also needs to be connected and covered by your plan.
Do you need to leave your computer on?
Not for SentinelleTrader’s hosted protection. A program running only in your own desktop terminal, however, depends on that environment. Remote hosting moves execution elsewhere: MetaQuotes describes this general principle for its MT5 virtual hosting. SentinelleTrader is a separate service from the MetaQuotes VPS.
“Computer off” does not mean that no connection is required. The service still needs to be operational and connected to the broker’s server. Losing your phone’s internet connection can prevent you from viewing status even if remote monitoring is still working. Conversely, seeing live quotes in MT5 does not prove that the protection service is connected.
Connect the same account you use in the mobile app
- Identify the exact account. In MetaTrader, check whether you use MT4 or MT5, the account number and the broker server. The broker’s trading name alone is not enough.
- Activate your selected plan. Create your SentinelleTrader login, confirm your email when prompted and complete the trial checkout on Stripe. Registration alone does not activate protection.
- Add the trading account. Enter its credentials and main trading password, not the read-only investor password. Do not share these credentials through messaging services.
- Set rules before trading. Configure your limits and, depending on your plan, trading hours. Check the displayed time zone and reset time.
- Wait for confirmation. Check connectivity, the settings actually applied and protection status before relying on the service.
If you cannot find the server or the connection fails, resolve that issue before the session. The broader setup process is covered in our guide to automating MT4/MT5 trading rules.
A quick check before every mobile session
- The account number and server match in MetaTrader and SentinelleTrader.
- Protection shows an active status, not preparation or a connection error.
- The drawdown limit and loss counter match the rules you chose.
- Trading hours and the next reset use the intended time zone, especially after travelling.
- You have a manual stopping procedure if you cannot verify that protection is working.
Switching devices does not change your stopping rule. Switching accounts or servers, or changing a password, can require you to check the connection again. This matters particularly when you alternate between a personal account and a prop firm challenge on the same phone.
What happens when a limit is reached?
While a lock is active, SentinelleTrader automatically closes new positions on the protected account. It does not disable the Buy or Sell button in your app, and it is not a guaranteed broker-native rejection before an order opens. Do not send more orders to see whether one gets through: costs, slippage and execution delays remain possible.
A notification tells you something happened; it is not, by itself, enforcement. Check the displayed protection status and restart time. To distinguish an alert, a position stop-loss and a session stopping rule, read how trading locks work after a loss limit.
Check the setup before making it part of your routine
Compare Essential and Pro for the accounts and features you need. The 7-day trial requires a payment card on Stripe. A free trial is not charged before its end; unless cancelled, your selected subscription then becomes paid. Applicable terms and prices are shown before confirmation.
Use the trial to check connectivity and settings, not to deliberately create a real loss. Protection still depends on the service, broker connectivity and execution conditions. It guarantees neither an exact maximum loss, a successful challenge nor profitability. The purpose is to enforce your stopping decision even when you trade away from your computer.
